I was at Greene Elementary majority of the day and it was an interesting day. It was a day that did not go as planned. I observed several teachers throughout the day, and other teachers from the district came to this school to model and observe teachers. I informally observed Ms. Ffrench’s classroom. She was teaching Virginia Studies; the students were learning about urban and country life. Next, I observed another teacher’s classroom. They were working on science packets. I observed lunch in the cafeteria. It was cool to see the students with books to read after they finished eating their lunch. After lunch, I went into a child study meeting. The parent was Hispanic, and so a translator was present to help the meeting be effective. This school is 80% ESL. The special education teacher read the notes, and the team discussed the student’s academic and behavior problems in the classroom and at home. It was an eye opener to experience a full day in an administration position. Things did not go as planned today, and the day in the building was very hectic. Everyone remained calm and altered their plans as needed. This day of confusion made me realize I need to carry journal and calendar everywhere I go. I need to communicate effectively with staff and other professionals entering the building. My journal/calendar will keep me grounded so I will not get confused. I need organization in my busy life!!!
