Special Education Teachers Need Guidance

I really enjoyed reviewing and developing an IEP.  I never had to develop an IEP because I am a general education teacher. Creating an IEP checklist is very useful for first time teachers or teachers new to the district.   I had reviewed the laws and procedures of an IEP and special education.  I felt this was beneficial for an administration position.  I was able to determine what worked and what didn’t work.  I examined each component of an IEP.  To know that some teachers still do not know how to write an IEP is a shocker! Or better yet, that will write an IEP that makes absolutely no sense or is relevant to the student’s needs.

It is very important that a general education teacher and special education teacher create an IEP for a student.  Yes, a special education teacher needs more education and training, but I feel as both should work together in the classroom, then a general education teacher should have knowledge when writing an IEP.
