Going to central office is quite interesting and exciting. Working behind the scenes to handle the daily business of schools is an experience. Listening to the phone calls of the parents, hiring employees, preparing for trainings and conferences are a part of the central office staff. I worked closely with Ms. Battle, Assistant Superintendent. She had a welcoming personality, and was very supportive and friendly. She made me feel very comfortable at central office. By the way, she introduced me to all her staff. She asked me, “Was she putting me on the spot?” I told her “Of course not!” I felt very comfortable in central office and I felt like I belonged there. The day was very busy and it was non-stop. Later, the assistant superintendent took me to various schools to meet other district leaders in the school system. Traveling to different schools was the best experience for me. To see the leaders of the district engaged in the schools shows how effective the school system is. Now mind you, this is not the school district that I work for.
Teachers should get experience in other school districts. It is very important to experience close relationships with leaders of the districts. I enjoyed making the connection with the leaders. It was an honor to shake their hands. I know administration is where I want to be. I want to lead teachers and principals in a successful school year. It is very important to make the right decisions when deciding what school system you want to work with. Make sure you do the research and look at the data. Connecting with central office administration is crucial to the decisions you make to become an administration. You want to follow the rules; you want things to be done fairly.
